1000-mm-round blooms in High-Chromium P91 steel produced by Danieli caster

A new performance highlight has been achieved by Masteel producing High-Chromium P91 steel grade in 1000-mm-dia continuously cast blooms.

P91, highly alloyed with chromium and molybdenum, is a steel grade designed to maintain mechanical resistance at high temperatures, hence hard to unbend. This performance marks a new benchmark capability for Danieli casting machines.

The 18.5-m radius jumbo round caster supplied by Danieli to Masteel meets the increasing demand for special steels for the energy sector, in production volumes and product quality.

Designed to cast round blooms up to 1200 mm of medium-carbon steel grades, each of the four strands of the caster is equipped with the world-largest, fully automatic top-feeding dummy bar to reduce the restranding time, and three electromagnetic stirrers to guarantee internal quality.

Proprietary Dual Temperature Control Q-DTC system, Dynamic Force Control, Dynamic Extraction Torque Control, and Q-Cool for a flexible secondary cooling are featured in this technologically advanced caster that operates with Danieli Automation process control systems.
