Nucor-Yamato orders Danieli Centro Combustion reheating furnace for its section mill

Danieli Centro Combustion will supply a 180-shtph walking-beam furnace, along with automation and material handling equipment upstream and downstream of the furnace, to Nucor-Yamato Steel beam mill in Blytheville, Arkansas, USA.

The new, modern reheating furnace will deliver the best thermal efficiency and minimum environmental impact through low carbon footprint and NOx emissions.

The proposed and selected solution includes an optimized material handling layout to be executed in phases, which will allow Nucor-Yamato to maintain production using the existing furnace without any major interruptions. This also will reflect minimal changes to the existing layout, enabling the use and retention of most of the existing equipment until the new equipment is installed.

The furnace will feature Danieli-patented Hydro-Mab burners capable of firing up to 100% H2 for potential "Zero CO2" emissions. The project will be integrated with existing plant operations in a seamless manner with the latest L1 and L2 Danieli Automation control systems. This includes an optimization system that follows reheating practice targets with automatic adjustments of the set points based on the thermal status of the stock, material tracking, and actual mill pacing. The result will be a high degree of repeatability of optimized reheating profiles and the possibility to define the reheating practices to fully satisfy any production requirement.

The new reheating furnace is expected to be operational by the Spring of 2025.

In addition to equipment and automation, Danieli will also provide comprehensive advisory services for installation and training to ensure seamless integration into Nucor-Yamato's operations.
