Voestalpine chooses Danieli for a slab caster upgrade

The partnership between Danieli and voestalpine continues as the Austrian steelmaker chooses Danieli to implement its latest advancement for oscillation flexibility on the double-strand, vertical-curve slab caster in operation at Linz plant. 

The new hydraulic oscillator to be installed will feature an innovative and tailor-made design that will allow a voestalpine to upgrade the double-strand slab caster without any compromise in terms of oscillation performances and capabilities, with minimal mechanical modifications on the existing machine. 

Thanks to this tailor-made design, the revamped machine will be able to use the same oscillation parameters currently used in the CC8 slab caster, which is the most advanced slab caster operating at voestalpine in Linz, supplied by Danieli in 2017. 

This new functionality will improve the mould lubrication with a consequent reduced risk of sticking, resulting in better slab surface quality with reduced oscillation marks. 

Slab caster startup with new oscillators is planned by October 2024.
